Jordan’s Military Thwarts Attempts To Smuggle Drugs From Syria

Jordanian security forces have foiled two attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs out of Syria in two days, the Jordan News Agency reported. On Sunday, border guards seized 10,000 Captagon pills at the Jaber border crossing, Jordan’s main border crossing with Syria. and 1kg of methamphetamine hidden in a truck.

On Saturday, Jordan’s Eastern Military Zone seized 564 palm-sized leaves of hashish, 20,000 Captagon pills, a Kalashnikov rifle, and ammunition. A source with Jordan’s
General Command of the Armed Forces said frontline surveillance patrols, in coordination with security agencies, tracked down an armed group of smugglers who had entered the kingdom illegally from Syria. Response patrols acted quickly and applied rules of engagement.

After wounding one smuggler, they forced the others to flee to Syrian territory, the source said, adding that the JAF will continue to combat any border threat vigorously and thwart any effort to undermine and destabilize Jordanian security.
