A Trip Down Memory Lane: Reminiscing my Keke Napep Rides and Tijani Gandu’s Music in Kano Part 1

As I sit here reminiscing about the good old days in Kano, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. The memories of those days are etched so vividly in my mind that I can almost feel the breeze on my face as I rode in the “A Daidata Sahu“, a popular local mode of transportation, from my house at CBN Quarters, Hotoro through Aminu Kano and Court Road to Premier Clinics. premier The hustle and bustle of the city were always in full swing, and the streets were teeming with life. The sights and sounds of Kano were simply mesmerizing, and I would often find myself lost in the moment, taking in all the vibrant colors and sounds that surrounded me. As we made our way through the city, the music of Tijani Gandu, Abba Gida Gida Abba, would always fill the air. I have many memories of those days, but one experience that stands out was when I was riding in the A Daidata Sahu from Murtala Muhammad Way through Bata to Bello Road and finally, Kanti Kwari to Murtala Muhammed Hospital, Kofa Matar, and the driver was blasting Tijani Gandu’s music at full volume. The beat was so infectious that the driver couldn’t resist turning up the volume, and we were all lost in the moment, tapping our feet and swaying to the rhythm. However, just as the music reached a crescendo, my phone rang, and I struggled to hear the person on the other end of the line over the blaring music. I politely asked the driver, “Maigida, could you please reduce the music? I just wanted to quickly answer this call.” Keke NAPEP popularly called A Daidata Sahu The driver turned to me with a mischievous grin and jokingly responded, “Oga, na Abba we dey celebrate o.” We both laughed, and he turned the volume down just enough for me to hear the person on the other end of the line. Apparently, it was one of my friends whom we both worked at the KASCHIMA Clinic in MMSH calling to remind me to come much earlier than planned as he was billed to resume work elsewhere. Despite the momentary interruption, the joy and celebration in the air were palpable. It was a beautiful moment, and I felt grateful to be a part of it. Looking back on that experience, I am reminded of the vibrant spirit and energy that runs through the city of Kano. The people of Kano know how to celebrate, and they do it with passion and gusto. It is a quality that I have always admired about the city, and it is one that I will never forget. In any way, those Keke drivers can drive a lot, so you need to be careful! The people of Kano were always full of energy and joy, anytime the “Abba Gida Gida Abba” song is played, despite the fact that Mr. Abba Yusuf, the then PDP candidate, did not win the election. I remember late-night rides through Zoo Road to Kwana Ganduje, passing through Sharada Industrial Hospital. The streets were alive with excitement and joy, and people were blazing it in their cars. The atmosphere was electric, and it was impossible not to be swept up in the frenzy Blue-Under-Construction-Facebook-post-2 A typical Durba festival It was an amazing spectacle to behold, with riders on horses parading through the streets of the city. The festival was a celebration of Kano’s rich cultural heritage, and it was an honor to witness it firsthand. Moreover, Kano is also a city with a unique political history. The celebrations that erupted in the city during Abba Yusuf’s campaign for the PDP in 2019 were electric, even though he did not win the election. I remember being a Presiding Officer under Fagge Local Government during the 2019 election. It was a moment in the city’s political history that I will never forget. Now, as I look back on those days, I am filled with a sense of pride and joy. The dream of Abba Yusuf has materialized, and today he is the elected Executive Governor of Kano State. It is with great pleasure that I welcome His Excellency, Abba Gida Yusuf, to his new role. The city of Kano has always been full of life, energy, and passion. I will always cherish the memories of those good old days, and I look forward to the future of Kano under the leadership of Mr. Abba “Gida” Yusuf. And wherever I go, I will always remember the vibrant sights and sounds of Kano, and the unforgettable experiences that made those days so special.
